Impotence meaning and causes of impotence

Impotence is very common today. Impotence is the inability to get an erection of the penis or getting it hard and staying hard. The impotent men can be totally unable to achieve an erection, ejaculation or sometimes with very brief erections. They don’t have an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse or unable to have an ejaculation.

Impotence increases with the increasing age. The men in their 60s have 4 times higher impotency compared with those men in their 40s. Therefore, it is very important for us to maintain a healthy eating habit, regular workout, and a healthy lifestyle. The more fit and healthy you remain, the more likely that impotence will not come to you easily.

Impotence meaning and causes of impotence

The main causes of Impotence may be divided into two parts, Physical and Mental.

The Physical causes:

(1) Endocrine diseases like diabetes can cause impotence in men. The Endocrine system is made up of glands which produce hormones, and chemical substances produced in the body that regulate cells or organs. These hormones are responsible for growth, sexual development and function, and metabolism.

A diabetic patients ability to utilize the hormone insulin of the body decreases. It can also damage the nerve system. This affects the nerves of penis and the ability of it to feel sensation decreases.

(2) Many neurological conditions are responsible for impotence. The nervous system failure may paralyze the brain’s ability to connect the sexual organs. Some of the neurological conditions are Brain and spinal tumor, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, Stroke etc.

(3) Many cardiac conditions are responsible for impotence. When the heart is unable to pump blood well then there will be low blood flow to the penis. It may cause impotence in a men.

High blood pressure and high cholesterol are also a well known cause of impotence.

Mental causes of impotence:

Mental causes of impotence is basically an emotional problem. The stress and anxiety may cause temporary impotence. Depressed men may become a prey of impotence. Because depression leads to hopelessness, sadness and afraid.

A person may find it difficult to get an erection with certain partner. There may be some past instances which can cause impotence, like being sexually abused in the childhood.

Excessive masturbation is also a very bad habit which can cause it. Drugs and alcohol addicted men are also in danger of impotence.

Summary: There are medications and different solutions for impotence. Therefore, no need to be worried about it as it is pretty common. Please immediately consult your doctor if you have any fear regarding your sexual ability.
